To mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Vanaver Caravan dance and music company performs its newest production, America in Motion, a tribute that celebrates labor, community, and the American spirit. Sing along, join in traditional American dances, and be a part of the story! All ages and abilities are welcome; no previous singing or dance experience is required.
Performed with live fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, vocals, and percussion, America in Motion combines American folk dance traditions, including Appalachian clogging, with contemporary movement, body percussion, and theatrical storytelling. Enjoy an evening that is both thought-provoking and joyful, celebrating not only the stories that shape America, but the simple act of coming together in music and movement.
5:30–6pm — Circle Singing (participatory)
6:15–7pm — America in Motion performance
7:15–8pm — Square Dance (participatory)
Established in 1972, the Vanaver Caravan is a Hudson Valley–based nonprofit organization that performs original, world-infused choreography and music locally and internationally. Drawing on a wide range of dance and music traditions, the company also provides cross-cultural arts education through school residencies and classes.
